Average price to spend on enagement ring?

I know they say 2 months wages is what you should spend. But whats the actual average price people spend?

Never, ever listen to those stupid sayings of "two months salary" That's just a marketing ploy and those that follow are suckers.

The average price depends on what kind of stone you are looking for.  If you want a high quality, under 1 carat stone then probably around $1,000 to $6,000.  If you want a high quality, over 1 carat stone, anywhere between $7,000 to $20,000.

Don't go by averages.  Just go by what works for you.

It depends on what size you are looking to buy and what you think she may want. Where are you from? I know a place you can go in the city of chicago. I f you want a great diamond in a regular store you can spend about 15,000. I know what my fiance spent and it is beautiful, but I have an aunt in the business.

$2000 should get a ring thats modest but not too modest.  I want to be able to see the diamond and not just have ugly chips.

Im answering from the girls point of view and if my boyfriend was asking this question, I would hope there was a girl out there like me answering it.

Look at it this way . This is something that is meant to last a lifetime. Its something SHE has to look at every single day. So dont worry too much about the cost and get a great quality ring that she will love. You can always finance the ring, so even though you think it might be too much now, over time it will become one more bill in your life that you wont notice anymore and will show your special commitment to her.

I think you can typically expect to spend about $10K to get a decent size diamond with great quality.

Also if you have any plans of being out of the country, especially the Caribbean, you find awesome deals on beautiful certified rings. I know people who have purchase diamonds in the Caribbean for about 7-8K and bring them back to the states for appraisal and the ring is worth 15K.You can also buy them tax-free sometimes if you go to the right place (out of the US). Just make sure that they have the papers that go with the rock. The US tends to mark up jewelry much higher than anywhere else.

there is no average price. Its what you can afford. Everyone is going to be different. People that make big $ can spend big $.

If you are really that interested in what I spent it was 8K. Now that would be too much for some but i could afford it

It just depends on the couple, we didn't have much expendable income at the time but my Fiance shopped around and found me a gorgeous ring on sale for $500.  I honestly don't think there is an average.

You can get a great ring for $2K. You just have to shop around. My favorite ring from JRDunn is $4K and is 1.14 carats. Don't believe that 2 months salary thing. Average price, I would say between $2K and $5K.
