Average teen weekly allowance?

To younger teenagers (and their parents) how much do you get paid a week, and (for the parents) how much do you think I should get paid per week? I: Unload the dishwasher (whenever there's a load), feed the dogs (every day) Fold towels (whenever there's a load) make my bed/clean my bathroom/clean room and help with cleaning other stuff too. I also get very good grades, if that matters. I used to get paid $10 a week for feeding our old horse,(and the other stuff I did was just helping out) but he passed away and now I don't have a job im not old enough to get a Real job can't babysit/other neighborhood stuff because i have like no neighbors since we live in the country. My parents gave me all those (above) jobs to do, but I don't get a weekly allowance handed to me without having to work --like most 14-yr-olds at my school do. Again, my q is: How much do you think I should get paid a week?

btw, i'm not spoiled or complaining about having to work for $$, i'm just curious about how much average american teens are getting paid as weekly allowance. Also, do you believe in giving a kid/young teen allowance money even if they don't work for it?

why can't I do some help around the house for them for free ?

  3. i used to get 25.00...~xoxo ally*

  4. i don't get an allowance..but my cell phone bill is very very very high...and my parents pay that for me..so i dont complain..lol..and if i need money for something..then ill just ask for it and they give it to me.

  5. I'm 12 i get 20 a week and i dont work 4 it i wash my dishes but i always did that

  6. i dont get paid anything and i do all of that

  7. $0.00. I do chores and dont get paid. I have to "earn my keep".

  8. My daughter is 14 and she gets $25 a week.  That money is hers to spend or save however she wants.  We don't require her to buy her own clothes, makeup, etc.  But if she wants something extra, she uses her own money.  She also has to pay for her own entertainment, such as movies and activities with her friends.

She does have chores around the house, but the allowance isn't connected to that.  I believe that helping around the house is just part of being a family; everyone is expected to pitch in and do their share, and kids shouldn't be paid for doing what's expected of them.  Nobody is going to pay my daughter to clean her room or do the dishes when she's an adult, so why should she be paid for that now?  Of course, if she doesn't do her chores, she does face certain consequences, such as losing a privlege.  But she still gets her weekly allowance.

Some people might ask, why should she get money if she hasn't earned it?  Well, I think she HAS earned it.  She goes to school 7 hours a day, and when you factor in homework and the other activities we want her to do, she actually puts in more hours than a regular full-time job.  Even if she was old enough to get a job, she wouldn't have time.  And since I don't believe in paying her for household chores, there's really no other way for her to get any money, besides us giving it to her.  So we do.  Because I think it's really important for kids to have their own money, and to have complete control over how they spend it.  That's the best way to learn how to spend and save wisely... through your own personal experience.  And that's an important lesson that I want my daughter to learn.

So yeah.  That's how we do it at our house!  =]

  9. Your parents put a roof over your head, right?  Maybe some food to eat now and then?  Clothing, Schooling?  I don't know, just some suggestions on how to get paid.

  10. I get $350 a month, plus $30 every week.. You should get more then 10 dollars! I should get around $30 I would say. I think I get too much, but im not complaining! I save most of it anyway...

  11. every week i either take out the trash and do the recycling or unload the dishwasher and i get five bucks a week.

but, on the last week, the five dollars i should earn that week, goes into the bank.

  12. I don't get paid but since my parents are divorced my dad gives me 20$ a week just because.

  13. Well I think it depends on your behavior that week, and how hard that stuff really is... I maintain good grades with my homeschooling and do babysitting every day at my house, and do 30-60 minutes of cleaning every day and I get $5 a day in a fairly poor household.... I hope that helps, but I don't see why asking this question can get you to get a raise in allowance if that is what you are hoping for.
