Question:

Average yearly wage in Italy?

What is the average yearly wage in Italy? I'm told it's around 25-26,000 Euros, but I'm not sure, although that sounds about right. Also, how does the standard of living in Italy compare with Western Europe and North America when wage and cost of living are taken into consideration?

  1. I'll have to quote Vippy and Catalina, for the standard average monthly wage in Italy after tax is around 1300euros.

The cost of living over here is actually very high, within the standards of Western Europe, and people are in fact struggling to live nowdays due to the disproportionate salaries. The (simplified...) reason for this is that since the euro had been introduced all the prices doubled (1 EUR=1936 IT Lira, so what previously cost 1000 IT Lira generally started costing 1 EUR) while instead the wages were correctly converted. The italian economy has been suffering so much in the past decade and the current US recession is not making it any better for us either.

This said, I think that the average salaries and therefore the quality of life in the US or in other places in Europe like the UK, do not compare at the moment with Italy.

Last but not least, this of course if you talk average. If you happen to land a good job, it is actually not bad at all overhere either....! :)

  2. That's not an average wage in Italy. Though the Euro now is strong, lots of Italians are struggling and renouncing to buy lots of things because their salaries are not enough. A North America wage is higher but with this announced recession it's not good here either.

  3. average yearly wage? if you're talking about the wage of the factory workers, it's not more than 15000 (it's even too much), and that's the same for teachers up to high school and government employees. it's impossible for italian working class people to earn more than 1000-1200 monthly.! trust me
