Avery Bradley has Kevin Garnett to thank for making it big in the league – NBA News
Avery Bradley will most likely witness the dawn of a new era for his career next season when he plays for the Boston Celtics.
The guard in his third year with the Celtics next season, will be playing as the starting shooting guard alongside Rajon Rondo in the backcourt for one of the most decorated teams in the NBA and a genuine contender in the Eastern
Conference.
Bradley will start in place of Ray Allen next season, after Allen decided to turn down a $6 million a year contract offer from the Celtics and instead went and joined the Miami Heat for almost half the price. Bradley had made the
starting position even with Allen on the roster last season, starting the game for the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs before being sidelined with shoulder injury.
The shooting guard did not have a very happy rookie season in the NBA, as he struggled to make any impact on his teammates. Bradley shot 34.3% from the field in his rookie season but made considerable improvements to his game last
season, that ultimately led him to winning the starting position.
And Bradley has said that Kevin Garnett is one of the big reasons that he has been able to rise as a player in the league.
Talking to WEEI, Bradley said:
“One day, KG saw me on the bus. I had my hoodie on. I was a little down. I wasn’t playing. He could tell I wasn’t the same Avery, always smiling but shy, and he told me, ‘You know what? I was sitting back in my room last night
watching tapes of you in high school. If you continue to work how hard you work every day and never give up, the way you played in high school, you’ll play in the NBA.”
It is great to see that Bradley shares a good relationship with Garnett as he will be needing it next season when he shares the court with him. The Celtics are looking at Bradley to rise to the occasion and handle the role that
was once reserved for Allen, and he can’t wait for the opportunity.
