Brooklyn Nets Head Coach says they have a great team on paper but they need to move forward from there and develop team chemistry ....

Nets will be one of the most exciting and interesting teams to watch this coming season. They have not had a good run these past few years, but everything about the franchise is looking positive at this point in time, after the
Nets revitalized the club with a move to Brooklyn, a new arena and an offseason which saw them spending millions of dollars to assemble an enviable roster.
With the new look, the Nets will surely be fun to watch, and certainly improve from their performance last season.
The Nets managed to re-sign point guard Deron Williams, who was the biggest prize up for grabs in free agency this summer. They then added Joe Johnson to the roster in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, and re-signed Brook Lopez,
Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace and now have the second most expensive roster in the league, which could come back to haunt them in a few years. But as of now, the Nets have the attention of the whole league heading into next season.
All the marketing activities aside, the real goal of any NBA franchise is to win a championship. And even though the Nets have done a number of good things in the offseason, they are still not a championship calibre team. And Nets
Head Coach Avery Johnson agrees.
Johnson was speaking to the Dallas Morning News when he dismissed the Nets as being championship contenders next season. He said:
“Deron was a big key to the whole puzzle. To be able to acquire some other talent through free agency or trades or re-signing some of our own guys, it’s pretty exciting for us. We’re not there yet. We’re not a championship team.
We got a lot of work to do. But at the same time, we have a much better talent pool than we’ve had the last two years. Right now, we look good on paper. Now we got to take it from looking good on paper and apply the work to go (forward).’’
The Nets are going to be a formidable team on the offence next season if they can manage to stay healthy. They have scorers in Johnson, Wallace and Humphries, and Williams is a great playmaker.
However, it is the defence which is going to be their weak end. The Nets will be right alongside the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers next season, possibly finishing anywhere from the third to the sixth seed in the Eastern
Conference.
