Aviation,Find wind direction and speed..?

i have to find the wind direction and wind speed. the true course,varation,pressure alt.,temp,indicated airspeed, true airspeed,ground speed,wind correction angle, true heading,magnetic heading, and distance is all given. do i use my flight computer or a formula? which formula if any?

  1. I pull up the wind page  on the FMS.


  2. Yes use your flight computer (E6B)

  3. The E6B is the best formula to use. However there are a few rule of thumbs you can research on the inernet.

    TAS=  .02 % increase per 1000 ft. + IAS

    Xwnd comp. = Sin < off runway * wind speed (KTS)

    Hwind comp. = Cos < off runway * wind speed (KTS)

    3 degree glide slope 5*GS = ft/min descent

    Well I can remember any more right now.
