I'm doing an all mountain riding little bit of downhill and cross-country. I have BB7's on and they don't have modulation.

  1. For AM riding definitely ride the Avid juicy 7 brakes.  I have the Juicy 7 on my Intense Uzi VPX and these brakes are light, super stong dual caliper stoppers and have modulation you are looking for.  Lots of Pro DH Riders like Steve Peat and Julien Absalon use the juicy 7 on their DH sleds.   If you go with code use the smaller 160 or 185 rotors for better mod. at slower speeds cause those 4 pis. calipers are strong.

  2. juicy 7's!!!!

  3. I haven't used either, but I would recommend going to a site like http://www.mtbr.com and see what the users on there have to say about them. I check out the reviews before I make a purchase.

  4. It depends on what you are looking for . The juicy sevens while be lighter and a lot cheaper. The deference is the stoping power. The juicy 7's are only single piston hydraulics. The Codes, however, are dual piston. The code's are defiantly more for the constant DH side of life and are much more expensive. The Juicy 7's are light both in grams and on you pocket, they are more of the climbing and less aggressive DH. If you are looking for the supreme stoping power of the dual piston codes but the price of the 7's check out the code 5's

  5. Hey Giant Biker,

I have tried both the Avid Juicy 7 and the Code disc brakes.  If you are riding mostly all mountain I would go with the Juicy 7's, because they have better modulation and are lighter than the Code's.  I also like the feel of the Juicy 7's carbon levers.

The only advantage of the Codes I experienced was the excellent stopping power and modulation (at high speeds) of the four piston brake calipers on 8 inch rotors.   These Codes preform very well without fading on long fast descents, but the Juicy 7's are also great DH FR disc brakes.

I would go with the Juicy 7's for the better modulation, adjustments and feel, but you can't go wrong with the Codes either.  Try and find last years 07 Juicy 7's at one of the on-line web bike shops.  They are probably blowing them out at xlnt prices.  Good Luck.

Edit: Hey Bikekid3,  I just wanted to let you know that the Juicy 7's are dual piston calipers and the Code and Code 5 brake calipers are 4 piston calipers.  Peace out.

  6. They both feel almost the same but my preference is Juicy 7's  I would go to a bike shop and test each brake to see which one you prefer.
