I might have to move to Portland, Oregon from San Diego, CA. Anyone know what commuting to the coast is like from Portland? Any tips from surfers that live in Portland would be much appreciated. Trying to decide if I can part with surfing everyday.

  1. hey mate, im from australia but i know i can help u with a really good website which should give you lots of rad spots to surf around the world. Try wannasurf.com, great website, showing most of the worlds surf spots,

    Happy surfing :)

  2. It's not a bad commute. I live in Hillsboro which isn't too far from downtown Portland (about 15 minutes with no traffic jams on highway 26). It takes me about 1.5 hours to get to the coast (Seaside, Newport, Gearhart). It's a beautiful drive too!

  3. You might be better off leaving surfing, and taking up a different hobby. For example, if you live in Troutdale, you could maybe commute to work. Or even Lake Oswego. Then, if you travel, oh, maybe 45 mins. to 1 hr, you can visit The Dalles, or even Hood River, and windsurf. Some of the best, I've heard. Very popular. In the summer, the weather is often around or over one hundred degrees. Dry heat. Great for camping out.

Or, Mount Hood is right there. Offers excellent hiking opportunities. Or extreme biking. Or mountain climbing. Or skiing. Or snowboarding. Or fishing. Or camping. And that's just one mountain!

Anyway. Good luck. Have fun in Oregon.
