  1. Aveyron is a department in middle/south of France and the main town is Rodez

Avignon is town, where you can see each year a theater festival in july. It's a beautiful town. It's the main town of the department Vaucluse.

The prononciation is a little bit different because in french, you pronounce "gn" as "ni", so pronounce Avignon as "Avinion"

  2. Avignon (phonetically Ah-vee-nyo) is the main city in the departement de la Vaucluse, in the region known as Provence. A beautiful little city to visit, especially in summer.

l'Aveyron (phonetically: Ah-vay-rohn) is a Dèpartement in itself, the main city being Rodez.. It is a lovely area to visit. The famous Bridge in Millau is in that region.

In nine days you should be able to do Aveyron and a few more things. For example Albi to visit the museum in the town where Toulose Lautrec was born, or a bit further southwest to visit Toulouse itself, or the walled city of Carcassonne..

You should have many wonderful places to discover and enjoy!

Provence is further east... Aix-en-Provence is a lovely city, Arles, Brignoles, Dignes-les-Bains, Carpentras and many others, I doubt you'd have time in just nine days to visit both Aveyron and Provence... At least not completely..

Do as many as you can comfortably, and have another go on a second trip!
