Question:

Avignon - child friendly?

Does anyone know if Avignon is child friendly? ie. could I push a double buggy containing my twin toddlers round its streets? Also, are there any B&Bs there (reasonably priced) which would welcome little ones?

Many thanks in advance to any Avignon experts who may know!

  1. You'll have no problems at all in Avignon.  In the old town, within the walls, the main streets certainly wide enough for a double buggy.  The pavements in some side streets are narrow, but most people walk on the road anyway.

There are steps at the Pont St Benezet (Avignon's old bridge), but it's entered via a tourist office and I think there might be a lift.

Children will not be a problem in hotels, the French love childrena and will make them welcome.  Make sure you get a hotel within the old city walls as the atmosphere there is terrific.  Don't know about B&Bs, but I stay at the Hotel d'Angleterre which is reasonably priced and in a quiet side street.

  2. Sidewalks are usually small but people are understanding when you lug a double buggy, France is parent friendly and you can expect help if you are alone with it and trying to navigate stairs and buses.

  3. don't worry avignon is child friendly as a lot of tourists come there so they  have everything planned for people who come there!

    have fun!

  4. Don't worry.... I am french and I have been living close to Avignon during several years (6) with all my little family, strictly no problem! the opposite!

But I wonder where you can have this information from....

    Anyway, welcome in France!
