Hello, I live in gardening zone 8 in California. I was wondering which strand of avocado tree would be a good producer for my garden. I have an area in mind that is full sun and there is no other trees around it. I don't know if Hass is the right one for me or not. These trees can be really expensive to purchase so I want to make sure I'm getting the correct one for my zone. Thank you!

  1. Haas, Fuerte, Zutano, Mexicola, Bacon, these should all do pretty well for you. The question is, are there other avocados around the area? Avocados have 2 types of flowers, "A" and "B". You need both types near each other to ensure good pollination. Zone 8 can be a little cold in the winter so I hope the spot you picked is a southern exposure.

I haven't been able to find a good flower by type chart on the internet, but there is a good one in the "Ortho Citrus and Sub Topical Fruit" book, you should be able to get a copy at Home Depot.
