I do not know why people like avocados so much. They have a very uneasy taste that makes me sorta wanna gag, its mushy and green, and there's not much whole lot of flavor in them. Can anybody tell me what aspect of an avocado that makes them wanna eat them so much?

  1. No clue! I used to feel like you, but then one day I enjoyed it in an awesome raw sandwich and my life changed forever! However, being pregnant, I can't eat as much of them before I start gagging on the way it feels in my mouth, but worth those couple of bites before that happens!

  2. It must be a personal thing. I love them and so does my wife. I make a killer BLAT-bacon lettuce avocado and tomato sandwich. In the morning I make my "shred"-a zuke and 1 potato coarsley shredded with a little garlic and fresh chives cooked like common hash browns, finish with sliced avocado and sour cream. My wife makes great guacamole too.

  3. WUT!?!?!?

U wanna box? How many teef you want knocked out yer head?

Just cuz you don't wanna eat somebody, don't mean you gotta go talkin S**t behind they back.

  4. I don't agree. Guacamole is really tasty. But I hate it when they are all soft and mushy.

  5. This is really a rant, my dear, not a question.

I'm not an avocado fan either, but I once had a raw cucumber-avocado soup at a cooking demo at Whole Foods, and it was really, really good.  So the key is, mix it in with something that will cover up the taste and mushiness.

  6. Is this really a vegetarian question?

They are healthy, are great on sandwiches and it's the only way to make guacamole.

  7. Hold on!  You have had a bad experience with a wonderful thing.

First, the texture may be what is bothering you.  They are creamy and soft, and if they can be squeezed and don't have any give, they are not ripe enough.  They need to be nice and soft (press the skin and you can feel your finger sink in a bit).  They are disgusting if they aren't ripe enough.

NEXT you MUST eat avocado with something, most importantly salt.  Sprinkle some salt on it and try it, and everything changes.  It tastes 100 times better.

If you are feeling adventurous, try some lemon juice on it as well.  Or sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds.  I had a friend that liked it with peanut butter.  Apparently in some countries they eat it with cream and sugar, like a dessert.

The avocado is wonderful, give it another chance!

  8. nope, totally agree with you! avacados are just freakin' gross!! i dont know why people eat them!!! nasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. they're wonderful, tart, tastey, smooth, bitter, a protein giant.. an iron giant and mixes well with many things...

it's a substitute for many things such as mayo,  dressing...    butter.

i love it in almost everything..   i  love to spread my avocado on bread and put something soy between it and eat it..

i love avocados mashed in my potatoes and blended to smoothness..

i use avocado in every freaking thing...

    even avocado smoothies...

thanks...     i want now to spread avocado all over  my woman and l**k it off.. but she's sleeping and if i did that right now she'd  kick my testes up into the roof of my mouth.

avocados are an aquired  taste...  try them every so often and think about it... sooner or later you'll  give in.

i did.. took me 10 years...   then suddenly i can't keep them out of my mouth.

  10. They are not so good by themselves but their subtle flavor means that they go well with other things like chicken.

  11. I like avocados with hot sauce or salt.  Either of these two ingredients, or both together, make it taste wonderful.  Avocados without anything added are not something I would want to eat, though.

  12. I agree, they are absolutely nasty. When I see them on a plate in the restaurant, I always give them to my bf, I can't stand the sight of them

  13. I do not like the avocado, not without improvements.

I was told the first time I ate one to put Worcestershire sauce onto it.

I did and immediately started to enjoy them.

The other additives usually used are lemon juice, and also light Italian dressing or a little mayonnaise--because without some help, they're a bit lame for my taste, and that of lots of other gourmets.
