Is there a way to avoid paying SS and Medicare on your taxes, if you are not self employed? Just a person working 8-5. And Not a foreign citizen. I dont care about SS and Medicare and was wondering if you must pay that, or its your choice. Thanks!

  1. Good stuff.  What if SS were an opt-in government retirement program? LOL

Too bad the reality is that it's a coercive ponzi-scheme and those of us who aren't near retirement are basically screwed.

  2. LMAO.  Do you think anybody would pay it if it were by choice?  Its the law.  Even if your self employed, at the end of the tax year, those people owe the government money for ss & medicare.  It would be a great choice, but we have no option other than just paying it.

  3. EVERYBODY has to pay it! It is NOT a choice because if it were, then everyone would choose to not pay it. It's the law.

  4. Not an option.  Unless you have a job that is covered by a similar program (ie. Railroad Retirement) they are mandatory and unavoidable.

  5. No, you don't have a choice, it's mandatory.

  6. Are you serious?

Why don't you go to your payroll department and ask that question and see what the response is!

Payroll taxes are required to be withheld. How many people would have the 7.65% withheld from their paychecks if they didn't have to? (Especially to a system that will be broke soon)

    Good try.

  7. You must pay.  Period.
