Avram Grant displeased with draw against West Bromwich Albion
West Ham United boss Avram Grant said his side must improve their defensive organisation at set pieces after their 2–2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
West Brom's summer signing Peter Odemwingie scored a penalty seven minutes before half time, but Scott Parker leveled the scores five minutes later with a stunning strike from distance.
In the second half, Frederic Piquionne put West Ham in front with a spot kick, but West Ham were denied the win by Pablo Ibanez' 71st-minute goal, which came as the home team failed to clear their lines after a corner.
"The reaction after they scored was good and we had a great chance to make it 3-1. We dominated the game, played quick in the second half, not like we played first half, and I thought that we were going to win the game, but the corner against us and we conceded
a goal. I'm disappointed," Grant told reporters after the game, adding that Parker's spectacular strike was telling of the midfielder's current form.
"[Parker] is very good for us, especially because of the injures, he is always playing with someone else in the midfield and it’s not easy sometimes. But we have to change all the time, of course we are very happy that we have Scott, he is doing well for
us, his goal today maybe is the goal of the year."
The draw meant West Ham lost vital points at the bottom of the table, where they languish in last place with eight points from 12 games.
Grant, who led Chelsea to the 2008 Champions League final, said his players deserve more points than they have been earning in the league.
"We are playing football to win games. It's not easy because we had a lot of injuries. We are playing well and this is what frustrates us more than anything. We are playing good football, from my experience if we continue to do this the points will come."
