Await The Dawn and Hoof It not to be contesting for the Qipco Champion Stakes at the Ascot on Saturday
The Qipco Champion Stakes at the Ascot on Saturday is constantly making news for those attending and then the worrisome part for those who are no longer attending. A P O’Brien’s Await The Dawn is no longer a confirmation for the race, rather it is highly
likely that he will be withdrawn from the race.
Prior to the news of Await The Dawn's attendance, it was confirmed that Roger Charlton’s Hoof It will not be able to show up for the Ascot event on Saturday. His reasons pertain to be a foot issue that he encountered when the Prix de I’Abbaye at Longchamp
earlier this month was due.
According to the connections this probably would mark the end of this year for Hoof It.
The connections are still struggling to reach a decision about letting him go for the foreign races, Hong Kong or Dubai during this season or to wait for the British races till next year.
"It keeps bursting out and then re-infecting. Gravel can either be sorted out very simply or it canlinger and grumble for ages and we have got a lingerer and grumbler at the moment”.
"But it is not something that is going to cause permanent damage, the problem is solvable and he doesn't owe us anything after this year”.
A P O’Brien’s four-year-old Await The Dawn contested for three different races this year and won two of the races. It was the Chester on 05th May and then the Ascot on 18th June. However, his performance at the York faded the blazing
passion for the Ascot. The horse himself caught fever after coming third at the York race.
The race was between two horses from Sir Henry Cecil’s end, Twice Over and Midday and two from A P O’Brien, Await The Dawn and Windsor Palace. The fifth entry was Jo Hughes trained, Zafisio.
Await The Dawn was far behind the leader thus he started off by tracking the leaders. He then went farther from the rail towards the outside and left competitors behind for the next two furlongs. He however grew weak when he entered the final furlong and
could not hold onto the speed, finishing third.
Henry Cecil’s Twice Over won the race with Ian Mongan riding.
The temperature has to be a major factor behind Await The Dawn not racing at the Ascot but the devastating display at the York did leave an adverse impact.
What future options the two will go for is still to be disclosed by the connections.
