Await the Dawn recovering well from illness after the Juddmonte International Stakes
The Aidan O’Brien trained Await the Dawn is on his way to recovery from the illness he picked up from York when he was sent as a favourite for the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions’ Series) run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 ½ furlongs
on 17 August, 2011.
The son of Giant’s Causeway was sent off at 8 to 13 to win the Juddmonte International Stakes but was found next to nothing in light of his performance in the race.
After the race, Aidan O’Brien blamed the below par performance on the horse’s dip in form due to his rest from racing  in the International Stakes but later stumbled on the real reason that Await the Dawn was suffering from high fever when the runner returned
to his stable on 18 August.
However, the news from O’Brien family is that Await the Dawn is recovering well from his illness and his temperature and blood pressure is coming back to normal.
Await the Dawn, waits for his next start, most likely in the Breeders’ Cup held at Churchill Downs in November.
Await the Dawn is scheduled to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and he is the 10 to 1 favourite to win the race.
That is what his connections are pointing at, even after his defeat at York in the International Stakes.
In the field of 5, Await the Dawn was up against the likes of Sir Henry Cecil’s superstars, Midday and Twice Over, even though Midday was expected to steal the show easily, Twice Over outclassed his stablemate and 3 other horses to claim a much awaited group
1 race.
Under jockey Joseph O’Brien, Await the Dawn got a clear break and started tracking leaders' right away. The pair started working on the upside with 2 furlongs to go.
Surprisingly, weakened over 1 furlong to go, they still managed to finish 3rd, 5 ¾ lengths behind Twice Over.
The news about his health is good and hopefully Await the Dawn will continue to make progress.
