Awards ceremony today?

Today, there were awards ceremonies at my grandkids' school. In the afternoon, the 2nd, 3rd & 4th grades got their awards.

This evening, the 5th grade got theirs. My daughter was at both ceremonies, because her kids both got awards.

There was another Mom at both ceremonies, today. She sat silently, didn't clap for her kids very much when their names were called.

This woman's 5th grader got the President's Award. As I understand it, this is given for all As on your report card, all year long. My daughter asked the boy if she could look at his award. He got a lapel pin, & a certificate signed by George W Bush. He was proud of himself, happy that the President had signed the certificate.

After the ceremony, my daughter mentioned that it was a pretty special thing to get that award. The Mom said "Big F'n deal! An award signed by that pig!" Her kid heard her say this.

My daughter said it IS a big deal. What would you have said if you were in my daughter's place?

  1. I would have said something like, "regardless of who signs it, straight A's for an entire year is still amazing!"

  2. WOW!  That is sad... I would have just told him that I thought it was an honor to get such an award.  I can't believe that a mom would act like that though, maybe se never did good in school and dosen't see the importance of it.  Maybe she's jealous, sounds a little imatur to me.
