Away from future uncertainty: Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy hosts football camp in hometown –NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, has taken some time out of his professional life to host a football camp back in his hometown in Abilene, Texas, where he grew up as a kid.
The camp was full of kids wearing shirts with word ‘McCoy’ inscribed on them, while trying their hands on the football and showing different skills. Colt watched them playing the entire time, reflecting on his own time back in the past when he had been through
almost similar situation.
He said of the atmosphere:
"Everywhere I lived was pretty much all around Abilene. Its kinda where my roots are to come back have all my high school coaches and junior high coaches come here and run the camp."
The QB added:
"You know one of the coolest parts is we’ve been able to run the camp you know one of the coolest parts is that we’ve been able to sponsor 50-100 kids and majority of them are from dyess air force base to come out and enjoy the camp and that’s been pretty
special."
It was very rare for the player to spend some quality time with kids, away from the uncertainty and worries about his future at Browns.
McCoy’s position as a starter at Browns has been challenged by rookie QB, Brandon Weeden. He is being seen starting for the team this season, while the management ponders upon the case of the incumbent.
President, Mike Holmgren, had earlier hinted that McCoy could be traded to any other team in the league and a final decision to this end is expected by training camp, which starts later this month.
McCoy himself has remained silent over development of the entire situation, showing determination to fight and retain the leading role. He has refused to succumb to the pressure and surrender his position to the rookie.
This will not be easy for him given some of the top brasses of the team want to see Weeden starting for them straightaway. They see the incumbent as an old horse who has been tested in the leading role time and again.
