What to do when you're in a strange town on your own. Don't want to stay in the hotel every evening, wheres the best place to go to be entertained and meet people without appearing like a sad loner??

  1. Ask a coworker, or a person you are going to meet for work for the best restaurant, or best "steak" or "sushi" in town.  You can go there and eat at the bar.  You'll end up meeting people (or at least the bartender) will know places that are "hot spots."

  2. Do some research beforehand.

If you like art, find out where the best galleries are located.

In the hotel bar, there are usually other solo business travelers you could talk to.

    Check out local sporting events.

    Find a mall.

I travel alone for business quite a bit, and I've always managed to find someone to chat with.  And even if you don't meet anyone, treat yourself to some nice dinners and a tour of whatever city you're in!

  3. These days enough people are out alone it going about without company is not that much an indication of being sad or a loner.

i would probably go to the nearest pub, order a pint, and if comfortable say I am about on my own for the first time in the area and ask what there may be to do.

As for me, I would probably just enjoy a pint and go walking about if the area is decent and safe, seeing what sort of [legal] mischief I could find for myself.

As said to open the marauder's map (Harry Potter), "I solemnly swear I am up to no good"

  4. Go sample the local prostitutes.

Then hit the bars, chat up somebody else's girlfriend and get in to a few fights.

    Live a little.

Time flies when you're having fun...
