To get the best "college experience" (lol) would you suggest living at home or going away to college? - Keeping in mind that I don't have much of a college fund - Thanks everyone!

  1. I stayed at home myself. It saved a TON of money and it wasn't so bad. I still had a bit of the college experience, friends, etc. However, if money wasn't an issue, I would have loved to go away for school, meet new people, experienced new things and lived life as a "college" student. Since money was an object, I chose to stay at home, attend the local CSU and now I am a teacher, with a low amount of student loans. I think a lot of it depends on what you want to do. I realized I wanted to be a teacher and knew I would not make a ton of money to do so, therefore money really drove my decision. I did not want to stack up the student loans.

If you do choose to live at home and attend college, that doesn't mean that you can't join various social groups, sororities, etc. that can help you feel connected to the "college" life. I think if you are working towards a very high paying career, a life away from home might be worthwile but if your career is going to be average-paying, you might want to consider staying at home and making the best of it. I will tell you, student loans are HORRIBLE!! I wish I didnt have them. I have a lot less than most people and don't regret my path for one minute because I'm almost 30 and paying a lot less than my friends. :)

  2. I think you should go away to take a break from home and other things and let your parents know that you have the responsibility of being able to live alone. They may even help you decorate! :)
