Awesome Feather all set to take on the Sunshine Millions Distaff field at Gulfstream Park
The newly turned 4-year-old filly, Awesome Feather, started her racing career at Calder race course back in 2010. Staying perfect there with 5 starts, then juvenile filly capped off her undefeated debut season with a win in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs to establish herself as a real force.
Lightly raced in the 2011 season, but whatever was thrown her way, she easily came out of it as a victor, going 2 of 2 including a grade 1 win in the Grade 1 Gazelle Handicap at about 1 1/8 miles for the first time on 26 November, 2011, at Aqueduct race course.
She won the race at the expense of defeating the likes of Draw It in second, and Love and Pride in third, while stopping the clock at 1 minute and 50.01 seconds.
She has run over about almost ever distance which should matter at this age.
Ranging from four and a half furlongs to 1 1/8 miles, which clearly shows that the filly’s versatility is one of her biggest assets, and it gives her connections the control to freely opt for races no matter what the distance.
Trained by Chad C. Brown for Stronach Stables, Awesome Feather started her 2011 season in October, in the Le Slew Stakes, but this time around it looks as if Awesome Feather will play out a full season going this early for her campaign starter.
The Florida bred daughter of Awesome Of Course, out of mare Precious Feather by Gone West, Awesome Feather will kick start her 2012 campaign with a run in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park on 28 January, 2012, at about 1 1/8 miles on dirt.
She will likely be the short-priced favourite in the race, as she bids to keep her perfect record at nine for nine in the 1 1/8 mile test.
It will be a fresh start for Awesome Feather, whose 2011 season was put on a hold by a tendon problem, but she seems to be fit after a 6 month layoff and is ready to extend her unbeaten record.
