Awesome Feather looking to stay undefeated in the Rampart Stakes
The brilliant 4-year-old filly, Awesome Feather, who went undefeated in her debut season, 2012, where she downed 6 races on the trot including the Grade 1 Breeders; Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2010.
Lightly raced in 2011, Awesome Feather kept her awesome winning streak intact by winning the 2 races she participated in last year, the Le Slew Stakes, and then going on to grab the big one, the Grade 1 Gazelle Handicap.
In the Gazelle Handicap, Awesome Feather was stretched out in distance for the first time in her career to 1 1/8 miles, with the second grade 1 race of her career, the filly as a sophomore then took the opportunity to go 8 up in as many starts over at Aqueduct’s
dirt course on 26 November, 2011, to cap off her 2011 season.
Expected to make it big this season, she started brightly and downed her seasonal debut as a 4-year-old in the Sunshine Millions Distaff over at Gulfstream Park’s dirt course on 28 January, 2012, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
The Stronach Stables owned and trained By Chad C. Brown, Awesome Feather showed she can cover longer distances and she downed the Sunshine Millions Distaff in 1 minute and 49.17 seconds, defeating Delightful Mary and Sweet Repent in the stretch, who finished
second and third, respectively.
With her winning streak going to a staggering 9 in as many starts, the Florida bred daughter of Awesome of Course, out of mare Precious Feather by Gone West, Awesome Feather is preparing for her second start of the season in the Grade 3, $150,000 Rampart
Stakes over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, a distance which is quickly becoming her favoured distance, at Gulfstream Park’s dirt course on 31 March, 2012, against 4-year-old and above fillies and mares.
The undefeated filly was on the Palm Meadows work tab on, as the filly breezed an easy five furlongs clocking a time of 1 minute and 3 1/5 seconds. This was her second work of the month as she breezed 5 furlongs on 12 March in 1 minute and 2.13 seconds at
Palm Meadows.
