Awesome Feather ready for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic
Trainer Chad Brown with his chest puffed up, has entered his undefeated 4-year-old filly, Awesome Feather, for the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic at 2 November, 2012, at Santa Anita Park, and as the filly’s inevitable start approaches,
her trainer worked her six furlongs at Belmont Park on 21 October, 2012.
Stronach Stables owned filly, Awesome Feather worked ahead of her 1 1/8 mile Breeders’ Cup race, and downed six furlongs, the only work at the distance, in 1 minute and 12.34 seconds, as per clocked by NYRA clockers over Belmont Park’s main track.
Chad Brown was very pleased with Awesome Feather’s work, and said that the filly moved very well, and ended her work with a super gallop and most importantly came back to the barn in the good condition.
The filly changed for seven eighths on her own and downed it in 1 minute and 24 seconds.
With a perfect 10 for 10, the filly by Awesome of Course is yet to race over Santa Anita’s dirt track, but the two-time Grade 1 winner has won over the 1 1/8 mile distance, as she capped off her 2011 campaign with a victory in the Grade 1 Gazelle Handicap
at Aqueduct racetrack over Ladies’ Classic distance, 1 1/8 miles.
She started her 2012 campaign with another 1 1/8 mile event at Gulfstream Park, and won the Sunshine Millions Distaff on 28 January, 2012.
Out of Gone West’s mare Precious Feather, Awesome Feather is currently coming off a 1 mile victory in the Nasty Storm Stakes at Belmont Park on 20 September, 2012.
"Fingers crossed, if we can keep her happy and healthy, we're in good shape," Brown said. "I'm going to come back and hopefully work her next Sunday, on the 28th, and if she checks out good on Monday morning we'll put her on the plane and bring her to Santa
Anita."
In 2010, Awesome Feather won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs, after posting 5 victories in 5 starts at Calder Race Course.
Awesome Feather will have her work cut out in the Ladies’ Classic, as she will go against the 3-year-old champion filly and defending champion of the 1 1/8 mile Breeders’ Cup race, Royal Delta.
