Awesome Feather to make her comeback in the Nasty Storm Stakes at Belmont Park
The champion 2-year-old filly of 2012, Awesome Feather is making her comeback to the races off an eight month layoff, and she will resume her career with the hope of extending her awesome winning streak to a perfect 10 in the $85,000 Nasty Storm Stakes at
Belmont Park.
Having raced only once this season, Awesome Feather’s ultimate goal of the season is to finish it on a high note, despite missing majority of the year due to injuries.
Chad C. Brown conditioned, 4-year-old filly is eyeing a start in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic in November at Santa Anita Park, and in order to get in shape for the toughest race of her career thus far, the Awesome of Course filly will have to get some
minutes on the track under some competitive atmosphere.
The 1 mile long Nasty Storm Stakes will be run on 20 September, 2012, over the Big Sandy’s dirt track, and the race has reeled in 9, 3-year-old and above fillies and mares.
Stronach Stables’ Awesome Feather made a visually impressive start to her 2012 season, with a thumping victory in the Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park on 28 January, 2012, where she bolted to the wire with a 5 ¾ lengths victory over runner-up,
Delightful Mary.
Under jockey, J. Sanchez, Awesome Feather ran over the 1 1/8 mile distance for the second time in her career, and covered it in 1 minute and 49.17 seconds.
Her impressive seasonal debut indicated better things to come all season from the filly, but her development was halted when she was getting readied to take graded stakes company, and in workout at Palm Meadows injured herself to be sidelined.
“She came out of a workout not 100 percent up front, so we had the Adena Springs team look at her. They found what the issue was,” Brown said. “It just required some time. They were nice enough to leave her with me, and as we’ve done all along, we worked
together. We rechecked her several times, and she seems good to go.”
Hopefully, Awesome Feather is done with injury time to actually show the world how good she is, and her nice string of works at Saratoga show promise.
