Awesome Feather will look to stretch her winning streak to 9 in as many starts in the Sunshine Million Distaff
Stronach Stables' Awesome Feather has the tendency to pick up from where she leaves, and the 4-year-old filly's perfect track record indicates that she is likely to return to racing on winning terms.
Undefeated in 8 career starts, Awesome Feather will kick start her 2012 campaign in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park against 5 other 4-year-old and above fillies, at about 1 1/8 miles on dirt, on 28 January, 2012.
The Florida bred Chad Brown conditioned filly won all six starts at the age of 2, and capped off her perfect season by winning the Grey Goose Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile fillies for her previous owner and breeder, Jacks or Better Farm.
After a perfect juvenile season, Awesome Feather was honoured with the title of the 2010 champion 2-year-old filly at the Eclipse Awards.
The daughter of Awesome Of Course, out of mare Precious Feather by Gone West, Awesome Feather lightly raced in the previous season, missing most of 2011 due to a tendon issue, but she is good at converting opportunities into wins.
She posted a magnificent victory on her return to the races in 2011, as she debuted the season on 5 October, 2011, to win the Le Slew Stakes at about seven furlongs at Belmont Park.
Her last race was in November 2011, when she bagged the all important Grade 1 Gazelle Handicap at about 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct, defeating the likes of Draw It in second, and Love and Pride in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 50.01 seconds.
“Since she’s won the Gazelle everything’s been perfect,” said Brown “She’s been training here at Palm Meadows and hasn’t missed anything. She’s been working right along".
Brown added:
“She’s done really, really well, but we play it day by day. Stronach Stable has been great. We see how she is after every breeze and every race and if she is not 100%, we’ll stop on her right away. I couldn’t be happier with the way she’s doing. She’s a good horse, so we’ll line her up with the rest of them and see what she does.”
Right after November's race, Awesome Feather was bought by Frank Stronach for $2.3 million at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale, and her new connections have seen her do what she does best, and they are hoping that Awesome Feather extends her winning streak to 9 in the Sunshine Million Distaff.
