Awful headaches.... how do you deal with debilitating headaches?

I have been getting really awful migrane type headaches lately. It could be stress but I am going to the doc just to check. If it is stress then how do you deal with headaches that cause nausea and sensitvity to light and needing to lie down and sleep and even then the light is sometimes too bright?

I have had a week of awful headaches like this on and off. When I am stressed I sometimes get them - usually for much shorter periods of time.Other effects are shaking and being clumsy and bad dreams.

Does anyone else get headaches like this and what do you find helps - medications? hot flannels? Any suggestions are gladly recieved!! - thanks.

(I am off to the doc tomorrow to check them out, but chances are they are just stress so I know she wont be able to do anything about them)

Thanks :)

  1. you are describing migraines. My father has them, all his life.

you need to see a Dr or even a pain specialist. There are medications available, but only on prescription.when i was a teenager, i had migraines and i had lie down on the floor in a dark room.

Nothing really helped, just staying away from light and noise.

My father is 60, the meds he gets:Maxalt

  2. Try to find a good acupuncturist, preferably Chinese trained. Mine is awesome & he has cured me big time. Try to get rid of as much stress in your life as you can ( easier said than done, I know). Western medicine is not always the best, the side effects etc.

Whereabouts are you? If you're anywhere near me I can fully recommend my acupuncturist. I haven't had migraine in months! I used to get them at least twice a week! Good luck with it all & hope this helps.

  3. webmd.com

  4. I get those alot to. I get them from stress and not getting enough sleep. For me the only way to make them go away is to take some Excedrin migraine and lay down. But it has to be dark (if it's not dark enough I have one of those eye masks), quiet, and cool. I have to sleep them off.  There are alot of meds that the doc can give you for your headaches.  Good Luck and I hope this helps!
