Question:

Awful humming comming from computer speakers?

I've read up on every question about this subject on this site. None of them have helped. The wireless phone is now on the other side of the room. There's nothing magnetic around the room that'd cause the speakers to hum like this.

I've done the configuration, gone through all the settings (toggled) and nothing's changed.

Explain!

  1. Have they hummed from day 1, or is this something new.

I would try another set of speakers - that will go along way with helping to solve the problem:

    Here are some suggestions:

    1.  A bad set of speakers

    2.  The transformer that powers the speakers has gone bad.

    3.  The wires that connect them to the PC are broken/damaged.

    4.  There is a problem in the PC to speaker connector (a broken internal lead).

    5.  The PC speaker volume control (software) is turned way down, but the speakers volume control (hardware) is turned way up - amplifying noise

    6.  Do you have flourescent light(s) nearby?  They can cause electrical hum.

  2. I'd be willing to bet the hum goes away when you turn your monitor off. If so, the hum is a product of poorly insulated or shielded cables. Or even a poorly shielded monitor. Try moving the wires that feeds your speakers and your monitor around. A few inches could make a difference. If moving them makes any change at all, I'd bet it's the monitor. Try another for troubleshooting.

       Good Luck.

  3. If they are new speakers your soundcard might be bad or maybe really low quality and your speakers are amping the noise. Also if they are usb speakers they frequently have a backround noise. There are hundreds of things that could cause it. Trial and error is the only way to find the problem. Try a different set of speakers etc...etc..etc..
