Zenit St. Petersburg’s Axel Witsel has denied rumours that he is set to leave the Russian Premier League club in the upcoming summer transfer window to join French outfit, Paris Saint-Germain.
“Paris is a very beautiful city but I am not thinking about leaving Zenit. I'm focused on the match against Serbia.
“Despite finding it difficult to adjust in Russia, I can say that I made a right choice to join Zenit. Well, we failed to win the League but if we evaluate the season as a whole, then, of course, there are some positives.
“I think it's wrong to say that I have been ineffective. I think I am doing well but I can do much better. I hope I will show my class next season,” the Belgian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The Belgian International, who joined the St. Petersburg club for a reported 40 million Euro transfer fee from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 last summer, has heavily been linked with a move outside Russia after failing to adapt to the harsh climatic
conditions in Russia.
The 24-year-old has scored just four goals in 19 league appearances since completing the big move to Petrovsky stadium.
News in Russian media suggest that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 D'Onofrio, Witsel’s agent, held talks with the Paris-based club and asked the Ligue 1 club to come up with an offer between 30 to 40 million Euros.
It has also been reported that the French outfit will sign Witsel after Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach at Parc des Princes, will leave. If speculations are to be believed, the former Real Madrid boss wants to end his managerial
career.
However, Zenit will only part company with the former Standard Liege man should they get an amount close to the transfer fee they paid to the Primeira Liga club, Benfica, barely one year ago.
Les Parisiens may not have a problem in paying such a big fee given that they spent in excess of 70 million Euros to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903 from AC Milan last summer.
