Axiata Cup: Misbun Ramdan Misbun put up strong resistance against Taufik Hidayat – Badminton news
Malaysia’s young shuttler Misbun Ramdan Misbun, who is playing from Malaysian Leopards at Axiata Cup 2012, showed his brilliance and put up strong resistance against Indonesia’s experienced player Taufik Hidayat.
Misbun lost the match to Taufik but not before grabbing one set as he put up wonderful show of aggressive badminton on Sunday, March 25.
The World Number 11 Taufik is representing Indonesian Garudas in Axiata Cup and helped his team to qualify for the semi-final of this team-event Championship.
The former World and Olympic Champion Taufik started the fight quite slowly and lost the opening game. However, he found his rhythm and won the following both sets with a one-sided margin.
After losing the match to Taufik in three games, Misbun said that he faced the Indonesian for the first time and has learnt a lot from this contest.
Misbun said, “This is my first time facing Taufik and it is an invaluable experience for me. I gave it my best and I’m glad I took the first game.”
He further added, “But being the experienced player that he is, Taufik read my style and came back to win the second and third games.”
In the first set, Taufik was quite relaxed and played slow game which helped his young Malaysian opponent to take advantage of it and set up a reasonable lead until the end of opening half.
After the break, Misbun continued his impressive play against the Indonesian legend. Taufik was not playing to his maximum potential and lost the set with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the second set, Taufik geared up his speed and proved his elevated skills. He remained in complete control this time and managed to clinch the second game with a tremendous 21-5 score on the board.
In the final set, Misbun could rarely win points with his shots as his opponent was in complete control.
Taufik was focused in the game and did not show mercy to his Malaysian opponent. He bagged the deciding game with an incredible score of 21-10.
Taufik won this three-set contest with a 15-21, 21-5 and 21-10 score on the board.
Despite losing, Misbun was happy as he played well and learnt to tackle the pressure on crucial situations.
