How does the gear ratio relate to the differential ratio?

Say you have very high gears with two overdrives and mate them with a 4.10 differential?

your rear end ratio is only part of the equation, the transmission gear ratio is the other half on two wheel drive cars, and on four wheel drive you have to include the transfer case gear ratio. in regards to your question, your objective can  be different based on what you are looking for, fuel economy or power.
