Aya Takano grabs Girls 200m freestyle gold – 2012 NCSA/Itoman Allstar Meet
Aya Takano of Itoman grabbed gold medal of the Girls 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 NCSA/Itoman Allstar Meet at the Golden West Swim Club in Golden West College on Saturday, September 22.
Takano continued her dazzling form on day two of the championship, as she showed no mercy to her opponents and ensured her place on the podium for gold medal.
With her nerve-wrecking form, she stayed in a lead of two body lengths over her toughest challenger and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a nice timing of 2 minutes and 01.18 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Megumi Ito of Itoman, who stayed 2.04 seconds apart and touched the wall for silver medal by producing a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 03.22 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Natsuki Maruyama of Itoman, who remained just half a body length behind and occupied third position of the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.86 seconds.
Maruyama was followed by Abby L Jagdfeld of NCSA, who was 0.33 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall for fourth position with a timing of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds.
Jagdfeld was trailed by Katherine G Drabot of NCSA, who stayed more than two body lengths behind and secured fifth position of the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.47 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was secured by Stephanie C Peters of NCSA, who remained only 0.02 seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.49 seconds.
Subsequently, Peters was followed by Megan E Byrnes of NCSA, who was 0.64 seconds behind and completed her race in a time of 2 minutes and 07.13 seconds.
Rika Takagi, who was the fifth best qualifying swimmer of the event, faced disqualification in the playoff and was unable to secure any spot.
In addition, Takano received massive admiration from the crowd for her gruelling efforts and articulated that she would continue her hard work to achieve the same at superior levels of international swimming.
