Aya Terakawa captures Women’s 50m backstroke gold – Swimming news
Aya Terakawa of Japan captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on last day of the 2013 Mare Nostrum Circuit in Canet, France on Sunday, June 16.
The Japanese swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing end for the title. With her astonishing pace, she remained only an inch ahead of her toughest challenger but she managed
to sprint her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
She faced tough contest from her closest competitor in the single lap event but managed to ascend on the scorecard for first position by touching the wall with the timing of 27.82 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Mercedes Peris of Spain, who was 0.10 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by tapping the wall with an effort of 27.92 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Etiene Medeiros of Brazil, who was almost full body length behind and surfaced on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 28.70 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who was only 0.13 seconds away from upsetting the third best finisher as she concluded her race in a time of 28.83 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position of the discipline was secured by Tianlongzi Xu of China, who stayed 0.22 seconds away from upsetting her foregoing finisher as she ended her race in a time of 29.05 seconds.
Xu was trailed by Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir of Island, who was almost half a body length away from her preceding finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 29.54 seconds for sixth place.
Subsequently, the arena saw ruthless effort of Amit Ivry of Israel, who was 0.14 seconds slower from improving her position and hit the finishing end for seventh place by touching the wall with the timing of 29.68 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Lidon Munoz Del Campo of Spain, who was 0.11 seconds slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for eighth position by producing an effort of 29.79 seconds.
In addition, Terakawa received massive appreciation from the audience for her notable efforts while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the prize ceremony of the event.
