Aya Terakawa earns Women’s 50m backstroke gold: Day three – 2012 Japan Open, Tokyo
Aya Terakawa earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on third day of the 2012 Japan Open in Tokyo on Sunday, May 27.
Terakawa not only captured gold medal of the discipline but she also exceeded expectations of her supporters by posting a national record time of the event.
Her quickest response to the start placed her comfortably ahead of her opponents in the start and she sprinted her way towards the finishing end in a new national mark time of 27.71 seconds.
Her stupendous effort remained nearly one second slower from Miyuki Takemura, who accomplished silver medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 28.63 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Shiho Sakai, who stayed 0.45 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade for bronze medal by submitting a time of 29.08 seconds.
Sakai was chased by Emi Moronuki, who was only 0.02 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher with the timing of 29.10 seconds.
Moronuki was trailed by Wakana Hirai, who suffered a deficit of 0.06 seconds from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 29.16 seconds for fifth position.
Following that, the crowd witnessed commendable efforts of Yamato Ujibayashi in the Men’s equivalent event. Ujibayashi stayed just a stroke ahead of his opponents and posted a time of 25.43 seconds for gold medal.
He remained almost 0.20 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the finishing end for second position by reporting a time of 25.61 seconds.
Third spot of the discipline was obtained by Yuusuke Kudou, who was only 0.08 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 25.69 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Hiroki Sakurai, who stayed 0.11 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 25.80 seconds.
The session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
