Aya Terakawa pockets Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day three - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Aya Terakawa of Japan pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on last day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Saturday, June 16.
The Japanese swimmer remained considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the four-lap discipline and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event.
With her epic pace and laudable start, Terakawa dictated terms to her opponents from the start and cruised her way towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.73 seconds.
The champion remained almost 1.50 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Anastasia Zueva of Russia, who secured silver medal of the discipline by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 09.27 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Alessia Filippi of Italy, who suffered a deficit of 2.32 seconds from her foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 11.59 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Miyu Otsuka of Japan, who was only 0.20 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by producing a time of 2 minute and 11.79 seconds.
Fifth spot of the event was secured by Sandra Hafstrom of Sweden, who stayed two body lengths apart and made her way to the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.51 seconds.
Similarly, Hafstrom was chased by Federica Sorriso of Italy, who was only 0.06 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.57 seconds for sixth position.
Sorriso remained in a lead of 1.01 seconds over her teammate, Roberta Ioppi, who obtained seventh position of the 200m discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 14.58 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who stayed 2.08 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.66 seconds.
In addition, Terakawa was happy with her gold winning effort in the backstroke discipline and articulated that she would try to impress her followers by achieving the same at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
