Aya Terakawa wins Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day two - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Aya Terakawa of Japan won gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Friday, June 15.
Terakawa displayed her tremendous form in the double lap backstroke discipline and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
Her title-claiming effort remained nearly full body length apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing 59.42 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Anastasia Zueva of Russia, who stayed 0.93 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 00.35 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by Elena Gemo of Italy, who stayed 0.40 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall for bronze medal with an effort of 1 minute and 00.75 seconds.
Fourth position of the 100m discipline was secured by Karin Prinsloo of South Africa, who stayed 0.47 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.22 seconds.
The South African swimmer was chased by Carlotta Zofkova of Italy, who stayed 0.11 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.33 seconds.
Zofkova was chased by Arianna Barbieri of Italy, who stayed 0.28 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as sixth best finisher by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.61 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Sophie Edington of Australia, who remained 0.20 seconds apart and made her away to the finishing blockade by reporting a time of 1 minute and 01.81 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was chased by Therese Svendsen of Sweden, who tried hard to overpower her former finisher but remained marginally slower from her on the finishing end.
Svendsen remained 0.09 seconds apart and cruised her way to the finishing wall as eighth position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 01.90 seconds.
The crowd admired scintillating efforts of all participants in the 100m discipline while the winners received awards and accolades at the price ceremony of the championship.
