Aya Terakawa wins Women’s 100m backstroke heats: Day three - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Aya Terakawa won the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m backstroke on day three of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, April 4.
Terakawa stunned the aquatic crowd with her scintillating form in the double lap backstroke discipline. With her splendid efforts and utter determination, she hit the finishing end for top position.
Her mind-blowing performance remained nearly one body length ahead of her following rival as she posted a time of 1 minute and 00.28 seconds.
Her stupendous effort was chased by Shiho Sakai, who remained 1.25 seconds behind and qualified into the semi-final as second best finisher with the timing of 1 minute and 01.53 seconds.
Sakai remained just 0.05 seconds ahead of Miyuki Takemura, who ended her sprint in a time of 1 minute and 01.58 seconds to qualify for the semi-final.
The fourth finest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Eri Tabei, who was just an inch slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 01.64 seconds.
The next spot of the race was claimed by Maho Tsujimoto, who was only 0.21 seconds behind and completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 01.85 seconds.
Subsequently, the audience expressed gruelling efforts of Mai Harada, who remained nearly half a second behind her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 02.42 seconds for sixth position.
With her stupendous qualification effort, Harada enjoyed a lead of 0.08 seconds over Noriko Inada, who entered the semi-final as seventh fastest swimmer. Inada paved her way to the next round by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 02.50 seconds.
Her alluring effort remained 0.07 seconds ahead of Sayaka Akase, who completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 02.57 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, these qualifying swimmers will compete against each other in the next round, where the top eight finishers will qualify for the playoff.
Furthermore, the championship will continue for four more days and will conclude on April 8 after the conclusion of all planned events.
