Aya Terakawa wins Women’s 50m back-stroke title: 2011 FINA World Cup Series
Japanese swimmer, Aya Terakawa outperformed in the pool on day one of the final round of the 2011 FINA World Cup series in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday, November 12. Terakawa went on to win the Women’s 50m back-stroke title over her rivals.
Japanese young gun, Aya Terakawa was combating with her compatriot, Jing Zhao and Australian athlete, Rachel Goh in a vital match, as Terakawa began the race in thrilling fashion by producing versatile turns in the pool and banged the finishing cordon in
a thriving mark of 26.44 seconds to clinch the Women’s 50m back-stroke title.
In the meantime, Zhao also produced a wonderful splash in the pool against her competitors and smacked the finishing wall in a booming time of 26.53 seconds to pocket silver medal. Afterwards, the bronze title went to Australia’s Rachel Goh in a blot of
26.64 seconds.
Japan’s Shiho Sakai also captured the attention of Tokyo’s arena due to her scintillating turns in the pool over her rivals and earned fourth place honours by thumping the finishing blockade in a matchless mark of 27.01 seconds.
Sakai was the gold medallist in 50m and 100m back-stroke races at the 2009 Summer Universiade, in Belgrade. Additionally, she claimed two gold titles in 100m and 200m back-stroke meets at the 2011 Summer Universiade, in Shenzhen.
Grace Loh of Australia knocked out Eri Tabei for the attainment of fifth place by beating the finishing mark in a time of 27.01 seconds, while Tabei went on to grab sixth position in a spot of 27.40 seconds. Moreover, Mika Ikeda of Japan gave her best try
in the respective splash and settled at seventh spot by smacking the finishing barrier in a blot of 27.79 seconds.
Last, but not the least, Risa Kishimoto of Japan claimed eighth position in a time of 28.06 seconds. Due to her versatile performance, Aya Terakawa was honoured with the gold medal along with a cash prize, after the session’s completion. The final round
of the seven-stop FINA World Cup series is set to close on Sunday, November 13.
