Ayr race-course meeting to go on as planned – Horse Racing Update
The Ayr meeting that was scheduled to take place on Thursday is going to go on as it was planned after the morning inspection was called off. The officials of the race-course had some doubts about the conditions of the track since there was a forecast of
heavy rainfall overnight. The clerk of the course had said yesterday that even though she is confident that the course can take a fair amount of rainfall, the invariant weather reports prompted her to plan an inspection. The inspection was scheduled to take
place at 7 a.m. Thursday morning.
Even though there was forecast for heavy rainfall overnight, only about 2 mm of rain was received by the course. Moreover, the weather is to remain dry throughout the day on Thursday and there will be a few sunny spells across the region. Under these circumstances,
the officials of the race-course thought it was unnecessary to conduct an inspection as they described the going to today’s meeting as being soft.
When the clerk of the course, Emma Marley, was approached by the correspondents regarding the meeting and the current weather reports, she was reported as saying that the management had expected much more rainfall than was actually received by the area.
She said there was a forecast of heavy rainfall, but only about 1.8 mm fell on the course. Emma further went on to say that the going is soft as it was on Wednesday, when there was drizzling throughout the day, and the weather is dry and sunny with breezes
flowing across the area off and on. Quoting the Met Office, Emma said that the temperature can go as high as 12 C today.
The Kempton race-course also received some 3 mm of rain on Wednesday ahead of its Racing Post Chase that has been scheduled to take place on Saturday. Further rainfall is also expected on Friday evening, up to as much as 3 mm to 6 mm, which will keep the
going soft as it is after a dry and sunny Thursday.
