http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 managing director, Ian Ayre, believes that the criticism meted out at Luis Suarez recently was unwarranted for, and the FA need to be consistent if they plan on taking any action against him.
The debate of slapping punishments to players who simulate dives to win decisions in their favour was rekindled all over again following the previous weekend’s action.
During Liverpool’s match against Stoke City at Anfield, the Uruguayan striker deliberately fell to the ground inside the 18-yard box with an aim to win a penalty.
After the game, the Potters boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis, lashed out at Suarez for his stunt, calling on the Football Association to take a punitive measure against him.
Pulis’ comments were further echoed by the vice president of FIFA, Jim Boyce, who believes that diving was fast becoming a ‘cancer’ in the game. He urged the governing body of world football to draft a rule which addresses this conundrum.
Nonetheless, the Liverpool chief came forward to back his troubled striker.
He pointed out that a lot of players were guilty of simulating dives in the Premier League and if an action is to be taken against Suarez, same should be done against all the other players as well.
“I am not saying that anyone in particular is targeting him, what I am saying is if there is going to be a debate, whether it’s a media debate or other, then it has been to be a fair one about everybody and not about Luis Suarez which seems to be the case,”
he told the reporters.
The 25-year old has garnered an ill fame of being a diver. As a result, it is believed that the match referees tend to be a bit stricter towards him. During the ongoing season, he has been denied a penalty kick on a couple of occasions, despite being subjected
to some harsh challenges.
However, Ayre does not plan on filing a complaint against the match officials for their stringent behaviour towards the forward, as he hoped it is something which will change as the season progresses.
“What I would say he has not had the rub of the green in terms of decisions but hopefully that changes as the season goes on,” he added.
