Ayu-Fani Damayanti overpowers Yumi Nakano to reach semis – Jakarta ITF 2012
Second seed, Ayu-Fani Damayanti, got the better of the Japanese contender, Yumi Nakano, in straight sets at the Sportama International Tennis Tournament 2012, an ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The local challenger manifested a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the Japanese to power into the final showdown at this outdoor hard court tournament taking place from 3rd to 9th December. She showed awe-inspiring skills to triumph over Nakano
in their first encounter.
Damayanti, who climbed to her career best rank at number 216 in May this season, made a comfortably entry at the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Stadium. She made a sloppy start and gifted her opening serve in the first game. However, the Indonesian not only recovered
in the very next game but held her composure and swiped her remaining serves. She capitalised on two more break opportunities and clinched the opener with a 6-2 score line.
Currently ranked 491st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Damayanti maintained consistency in her game in the following set. She got the coveted break in the second game and cruised to a 3-0 lead. The Indonesian starlet
held her remaining serves with poise and after availing another break opportunity near the end, she clicked the set with a 6-2 win.
The Indonesian secured a quarter-final berth at the Wenshan ITF event where she exited to top seeded Su-Wei Hsieh with double bagels.
Next in line for Wenshan is the eighth seed, Akari Inoue, who devastated the Taiwanese challenger, Ching-Wen Hsu, with double breadsticks to set up this meeting.
The third seed, Yuka Higuchi, overpowered the seventh seed, Lavinia Tananta, in straight sets to secure a place in the final four.
The local seed lost her serve twice but capitalised five break opportunities to formulate a 6-3, 7-5 score line in almost one hour and 15 minutes.
Next up for Higuchi is the top seed, Jia-Jing Lu, who crushed the Japanese contender, Yumi Miyazaki, with a bagel to set up this meeting. She jolted down a 6-0, 6-1 victory in less than an hour to set up this meeting.
