Ayumi Morita defeats Jie Zheng in the first round of Brussels Ladies Open
Chinese tennis ace, Jie Zheng was thrashed out by the Japanese player, Ayumi Morita on Tuesday, 17th May, 2011 in the first round of the Brussels Ladies Open.
Morita edged past Zheng with a score line of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to reach the second round of the event, taking not more than two hours of play.
Morita started off the opener with a break in hand and raced to 2-0 in the first set but Zheng broke back in the fourth game to level the score at 2-2. However, Zheng once again failed to hold her serve and awarded a break to Morita
in the fifth game, who maintained the gap to wrap the first set 6-4.
The Japanese fired 58 percent of the first serves, winning 87 percent of the points on them. While, Zheng stayed behind with a huge difference of 29 percent as she delivered 63 percent of them into points. Morita won 64 percent
of her second return points and converted two of four break points to take the first set.
However, in the second set the Japanese ace came back strongly and took the lead but both players traded multiple breaks, Morita while serving to stay in the second set faltered and allowed Zheng to level the set scores 1-1, as
Zheng took the second set with 6-4.
Zheng struck a single ace and 68 percent of the first serve, winning 52 percent of points on them. In comparison, Morita fired 83 percent of the first serve and gained a meagre 42 percent behind them. The Chinese pro converted
67 percent of break points against Morita and closed out the second set at 6-4.
In the final set, Morita stepped up her game and raced past Zheng 6-1 to win the match. Morita saved 100 break points en route to a one-sided victory. She fired in 65 percent of the first serve, winning 85 percent of points behind
them.
Morita wrapped up the victory with 56 percent of points on her service, 51 percent of points on return and 53 percent of points in total during the whole process.
Morita, emerging victorious today, has improved her year-to-date win loss mark to 13-12 matches. The Japanese will next face world number 429th Casey Dellacqua of Australia in the second round of the tournament. Morita
and Dellacqua will be meeting for the fourth time in their career when these two square off on Wednesday. Morita leads their head-to-head series to 3-0. Both players are in excellent form, however, someone will have to give up on Wednesday. Morita’s confidence
should be at an all-time high right now and she has to feel good about her prior efforts against the Australian.
