Ayumi Morita eases past Paula Kania to reach the quarter-finals – OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open
Defending champion, Ayumi Morita, carried on her sublime run at the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open and outgunned the Pole opponent, Paula Kania, in the second round encounter on Wednesday. The third seeded Japanese contender took merely
73 minutes to register her comprehensive victory in twin-sets, 6-2, 6-2, to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.
22-year-old Morita had been extremely brilliant last season at this venue and is exhibiting the similar sort of class in Taipei, Taiwan, this year. The Japanese faced no real challenge from Kania in the entire matchup and just
cruised to victory in the most assertive manner. She barely lost four games in the whole contest and registered her first victory over the 19-year-old Pole rival.
The Japanese hot favourite was off to a flyer in the opening set and broke the Polish serve in the very first game of the match. Another break of serve in the fifth game helped Morita to attain an unassailable lead of 5-1 in the
first set. Kania held her next serve but the Japanese contender did the same to wrap up the opener at 6-2.
A more competitive second set was witnessed, with a total of six break points being exchanged between the contestants. Kania registered serve breaks in second and sixth games of the set but the third seeded Japanese came up with
four thumping break points to fritter away her advantage.
Morita had a serve precision of 66 per cent in the match and lost merely seven points on it, clinching 24 out of 31 en route to victory. She suffered two serve breaks from Kania in the match but six cracking break points from the
third seed’s racket proved to be the deciding factor in the contest. The Japanese youngster had a phenomenal return game in the match and snatched 35 out of 62 return points on her opponent’s serve to come out as the deserving winner. She bettered the Pole
teenager in every segment of the game and did not lose her momentum at any stage of the competition.
The third seeded Japanese will either face Misaki Doi or Wen-Hsin Hsu in the quarter-final draw of the tournament later this week.
