Ayumi Morita surmounts Eleni Daniilidou in 2nd round – HP Japan Open 2011
Sixth seeded Ayumi Morita outfoxed Greek Eleni Daniilidou in the second round of the HP Japan Open 2011. The two challengers duelled on outdoor hard courts of Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka, Japan. After one hour and fifty four
minutes the sixth seeded Japanese surmounted the Greek in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3, on Thursday the 13th of October 2011.
Serving confidently for the opening round of the match was sixth seeded Morita, who easily bagged the first service game against her adversary to place herself on the scoreboard at 1-0. Trailing behind her was Daniilidou, who too
successfully held her serve and placed herself beside Morita at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
In the following two games, Morita held serve and then capitalized on an early break as Daniilidou erred while smashing a backhand shot. She again repeated the feat and by the end of the sixth game, it was only Morita leading on
the scoreboard with a 5-1 score.
Although, she was only a game away, the sixth seeded Japanese double faulted on her second serve and endorsed a breakpoint to her adversary. However, immediately in the next game she forced an error out of her adversary to reel
off with the opening set and had gained the competitive edge in the match.
The second set was also initiated by Morita, who held her serve and then capitalized on an early break in the second game to move the scoreboard at 2-0. However, Daniilidou was not going to let her adversary easily get away and
quickly broke back in the next game and then held her serve to equalize the scoreboard at 2-2.
In the fifth and the sixth game, the Japanese utilized the serve-break technique to take the lead of 4-2. As she again held serve in the seventh game, she was now only a game away from victory and shifted the scoreboard to 5-2.
During the last two games the players held serve and in doing so; Morita had sealed her victory of the set and the match.
The number six seeded Japanese reserved a spot in the quarterfinal of the event where she will be facing either American Vania King or second seed Marion Bartoli.
