Ayumi Morita turns the tables on Polona Hercog in round one - Fed Cup WG II 2012
Ayumi Morita of Japan overpowered the Slovenian competitor, Polona Hercog, in the Fed Cup World Group II, contested on Sunday. This upset confirmed an emphatic clean sweep for Japan against the Slovenian squad. Final scores
of the match were 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-1.
Both star players kick-off the match in cautious manner; hanging on to their respective serve games and building up some momentum. First six games witnessed no break points before the inferior ranked Japanese brought her
opponent down with couple of breathtaking cross-court winners; pivotal breakthrough gave the lead to the Slovenian as she prepared herself to consolidate the scores in her favour with a successful serve game.
Miserable game play in the last game of the first set gifted the serve to the Slovenian who gobbled up the first set win and raised chances saving a clear cut white-wash for her country. Second set was a bit sloppy at the
start with both players reluctant to take any sort of risk. Breakthroughs were traded in the sixth and seventh game of the set that kept the scores together.  No more breakpoints were witnessed at the arena; tie-breaker round was enforced to decide the set.
A cracking battle between the two players continued in the tie-breaker round as well. Finally, it was the Slovenian contestant who was lucky to seal the second set win and exert pressure on her opponent with the final set
right around the corner.
Majestic start to the final set from the Japanese witnessed the 36th ranked, Hercog, tumbling in front of the inferior ranked contestant. Hercog was broken twice in succession and her dismal game play
with tiring return shots gifted several points to her opponent. Multiple unforced errors increased her misery as she was completely bullied all across the court.
The Japanese tennis ace was steaming in confidence and played some remarkable shots that completely shattered her opponent’s concentration into pieces. Win for the Japanese player gave an emphatic 3-0 unbeatable lead to her
nation that was turned into a complete white-wash in the doubles contest between the representatives of two countries later in the day.
