Azahara Munoz can pose challenge to rivals in current season
Spanish Azahara Munoz looked more than happy at the end of Sybase Match Play Championship 2012 as she beat her nearest rival Candie Kung of the United States, but the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012 can
prove more challenging as the field is going to be much tougher this time.
Munoz exhibited a stellar performance right from the start of the Match Play Championship and made perfect strokes on most of the holes. However, the Kingsmill Championship 2012, which is being played from
September 6-9 at Williamsburg, Virginia, United States, will pit top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars against each other.
The Spanish star is worthy of comparison to any other battle-hardened contenders in Kingsmill Championship roster, as she has shown in the past events that she has what it takes to trouble rivals. It remains
to be seen how the 24-year-old golfer is going to clinch her second LPGA title of her career when she tees off at Virginia.
In addition to proving her worth at the Sybase Match Play Championship 2012, Munoz has recorded good finishes in some of the tournaments she has played in the current season. She came close to winning the Walmart
NW Arkansas Championship, held in July this year.
Speaking to the media about her performance, Munoz had said that she had been doing her best in the last few weeks.
“Well, this week has been huge because I was kind of making a few swing adjustments and last couple tournaments I missed the cut,” she had said at the end of the final round of Walmart NW Arkansas Championship
2012.
“I was probably working too much on my swing and I shouldn't have, but I want it to be good for the summer and I just needed to make those changes, so this week is going to really help. Coming from missing
two cuts is kind of hard”.
The Spanish prodigy kicked off the tournament with heaps of confidence and impressed her fans by posting a 69 in the opening round. She picked up pace in the second and third round, shooting a 68 and 65 respectively.
Commentators said that in order to predict how Munoz is going to play at the looming battle at Virginia, her performance in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 has to be taken into account.
Munoz displayed a stunning performance at the Canadian Open, held last week at the Vancouver Golf Club, as she finished tied for 11th after shooting an overall 284.
