Azahara Munoz confirmed for Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012
Spanish Azahara Munoz could not make the cut at the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, but she has vowed to do her best at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, slated to be held from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Munoz has been performing well in the current season, as she won the Sybase Match Play Championship 2012, held in May.
However, she could not live up to the expectations of her fans in the LPGA Championship 2012, one of the four major tournaments on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Analyst said that the Spanish star appears to be in great form, as she is determined to repeat the Match Play performance in Canada.
The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic is going to feature a strong roster, with players like Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato, Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Cristie Kerr of the United States, Natalie Gulbis, Alena Sharp and Canadian Lorie Kane.
Although the 144-player field has not been completed yet, but the tournament officials said that all the players in the roster will confirm their commitment for the tournament soon.
They said that the field will feature a number of Canadian players, which will help attract a huge number of spectators.
On the LPGA Tour, Munoz has recorded one victory, and is seeking to improve her profile in the upcoming event.
The Spaniard participated in the LPGA Championship with plenty of confidence, but failed to make the cut.
Analysts said that displaying a poor performance in a major championship typically lets players down, but Munoz appears unfazed, as she focuses on winning titles — regardless of a major or a non-major.
Speaking to the media in her recent interview, the rising star said that she was extremely happy after hoisting her first LPGA title.
She pointed out that after turning pro, her fans expect more from her. “Well, obviously, you know, getting my first win was amazing. That's all we practice for, and I have been waiting for that moment since I turned pro and came on Tour,” Munoz said.
“It was really nice finally getting that win. It was nice to have the next week off so I could actually relax a little bit and do all the interviews”.
