Azahara Munoz explores the lighter side of golf, helps the cause of cancer research
With her recently formed alliance with professional golf players, the young and aspiring female golfer, Azahara Munoz, expressed her desire to start her 2012 golf year by extending her support for the Maria Garcia-Estrada Foundation. For that, she will be participating in the IV Memorial Pro-Am.
The Foundation has achieved a prominent position in the area of cancer research that it has been conducting for a number of years.
In order to financially support the people suffering from this fatal disease, golfers have joined hands to organise an event that will be taking place at Abama Spa & Resort, Tenerife on the 13th and 14th of this month.
It is purely on humanitarian grounds that Azahara decided to help the foundation by taking part in this event.
She began her career as an amateur golfer in 2009 and it was not until 2010 that she got her first breakthrough in the form of the Rookie of the Year award.
It is also important to mention here that her time on the national amateur team did not coincide with that of Maria Garcia Estrada, but they do share some common titles.
The foundation came into inception after Estrada’s demise in the year 2005. Since throughout her life Estrada remained closely linked with the game of golf, it is not very hard to believe that it has left a long-lasting legacy with itself especially for golfers.
The fund generated from the event will be invested in research purposes and prospects that can help devising a proper cure for people suffering from cancer.
In addition to this, the main activity of the event will take place in the Pro-Am competitions, which will comprise of 40 teams along with 1 professional and 3 amateur players.
Alongside, other competitions comprising local and international players of the game will also take place.
The competitions will be accompanied by a highly hospitable dinner that will be arranged for all the participants at the Abama Hotel.
With the help of such events, it is believed that the humanitarian aspect of sports is still large and thriving.
