Azahara Munoz ties for third at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
Spanish Azahara Munoz might have stood firm in some of the most nerve-racking battles on the course in her pro career, but the latest confrontation at the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
proved tougher than she had anticipated.
Munoz put her best foot forward in the Lacoste Ladies Open De France, held at Chantaco Golf Club, Aquitaine, France, but her efforts were held off by stars like Stacey Keating and Diana Luna.
Keating remained the strongest contender as she posted an overall score of 266 to clinch her second straight LET (Ladies European Tour) title on Sunday, while Luna took the second position
after she scored a 267 on the leaderboard.
Munoz got off to a sensible start as she shot a 66 in the opening round, but a 71 in the second round on Friday dented her confidence. Despite registering a low score, the Spanish star regained
her confidence on Saturday as she shot a 66 in an attempt to improve her position on the leaderboard.
In an event that saw Keating score as low as 62 in the first round, shooting a 66 did not prove to be that beneficial for Munoz. She posted another 66 in the final round to help her take the
third position along with American Hannah Jun, although the score was not enough to trouble the top-ranked rivals.
Observers said that the LET titan might have missed out another opportunity to win in France, but her overall performance both on the LET and LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) certainly
speaks of her talent.
Having recorded six top-ten finishes on the LPGA Tour in the 2012 season, the Spaniard was regarded as the hot favourite at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012.
Expressing her confidence in her game, Munoz said in her pre-tournament interview that she is happy with what she has done on the LPGA, and hopes to keep that momentum going in LET events
too.
“I feel great. So far it’s my best season and I’ve had a lot of top fives, top-10s and I got my first win, so I was really happy with that. It’s really hard to always keep playing really well.
I play really well, then relax a little bit, then start playing really well again,” Munoz said.
