Azarenka/ Kirilenko breeze pass Spears/ Kops-Jones into quarterfinal – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Number four seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka with Russian Maria Kirilenko breezed past Americans Raquel Kops-Jones with Abigail Spears in the doubles quarterfinal of Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011. On Thursday afternoon the teams
battled it out on hard courts of the Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan. Fourth seeded Azarenka/ Kirilenko needed just fifty five minutes to run over the unseeded American pair, winning with a bagel and a breadstick victory (6-0, 6-1).
Opening the first round of the match was the American unseeded team of Kops-Jones/ Spears, who had just won the service toss and had gotten to a bad start as they were unable to hold serve in the first game. On the other hand,
Azarenka/ Kirilenko were on a roll and not only broke their opponents in the first game but also in the third and   by holding serve in the second and fourth game, they were leading with a 4-0.
Subsequently dominating the first four games, the Belarusian/ Russian pair asserted even more dominance by breaking their opponents again in the fifth to further increase the gap to 5-0. Only the fourth seeded team was to be found
on the score board, while, Kops-Jones/ Spears were unable to make a comeback and were completely crushed by the end of the fifth game.
After capitalizing on the three breakpoints, the fourth seeded mix of the Russian/ Belarusian served for the match in the sixth game and by smashing a back hand crosscourt they reeled off a bagel set victory against the unseeded
American team of Spears/ Kops-Jones.
Powering through to the first set, the fourth seeded players set the tone for the second and opening the second set was again Kops-Jones/ Spears, who were unable to clog a single game in the entire first set. As the unseeded American
pair served nervously, they double faulted again in the first game and endorsed the opening game of the set to their adversaries.
By capitalizing on a mini break during the first game, Azarenka/ Kirilenko were first to make it on the score board and as they held their own in the second they were again leading with a mini lead of 2-0. As the American duo were
trying to smash an ace, their forehand shot went wayward and it seemed that history was repeating itself because the Belarusian/ Russian pair had just bagged another game on their opponents’ serve.
Azarenka/ Kirilenko further increased the gap to 4-0 by holding serve in the fourth game and then again at 5-0 as they broke their adversaries again in the fifth. It seemed that it would be another bagel victory for the fourth
seeded team but as Azarenka/ Kirilenko served, they double faulted and endorsed the only game to their adversaries. However, not wanting to further prolong the match, Azarenka/ Kirilenko broke back in the seventh game and conquered a breadstick victory.
