Azerbaijani Women beat Italy 5-3 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Germany
The Azerbaijani outfits flayed their Italian counterparts in a scintillating fashion by 5-3 in their second Pool A match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations Championship (women), played at the Warsteiner Hockey Park in Monchengladbach, Germany on Sunday, August
21.
The Azerbaijanis remained the dominant partner of the game as they dictated the Italian ladies on their own terms in the entire match. They made a triple strike in the first thirty five minutes and scored two goals in the second half whereas their opponents
ended the game with a single goal in the first half and a couple of strikes in the second part of the game.
The first half started seeing a tough battle between the oppositions who struggled to find their way to oppositions’ circle in the early moments of the first half. Both the teams, especially the Azerbaijanis looked more aggressive in the first half but they
had to wait till the 23rd minute to open their account when Zhang Suleymanova scored the opening goal after they were awarded a penalty stroke. Six minutes after the opener the Azerbaijani women once again penetrated into the Italian circle and
succeeded in doubling their lead when Zhun Mammadova beautifully finished an attacking build up in the 29th minute and made it 2-0.
However, five minutes before the interval the Italian ladies successfully reduced the Azerbaijan’s lead when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 30th minute to which Alessia Padalino made no mistake and directed the ball into Azerbaijan’s
net. But moments before the interval, the Azerbaijanis once again increased their lead when Myungsoon Mammadova converted a penalty corner in to their third goal in the 35th minute. The score was 3-1 to Azerbaijan at the interval.
The early part of the second half again belonged to the Azerbaijanis who scored two further goals in a succession of seven minutes into the play. Their fourth goal was scored in the 37th minute when Hwa Lee showed an amazing effort to score a
beautiful field goal while the fifth and the final was scored in the 42nd minute with Mi Seon Aliyeva as the contributor for Azerbaijan.
However, the later part of the second half saw some improvement in the Italian side as they made a double strike in that time. The Italians scored their second goal in the 49th minute with Alessia Padalino was once again the scorer for Italy while
their third was scored in the 67th minute when Macarena Ronsisvalli converted a drag flick into goal. The match concluded at 5-3 to Azerbaijan.
